License¶
The Librem 5 and Liberty phones are shipped with a system image that includes software from a variety of sources. The following links provide summaries for the packages provided with each shipment of the phone:
Certification¶
CALEA¶
Neither the Librem 5 nor the Liberty phone are required to comply with CALEA requirements.
CALEA applies to US-based telecommunications providers, not to Purism. If the user of a Librem phone uses a carrier in the US with a traditional “phone number”, that carrier must comply with CALEA for phone calls, as the phone call is sent over the carrier’s connection. Pure Matrix-to-Matrix calls are outside of CALEA requirements (Matrix nor Purism are telecommunications service providers). If the call touches the PSTN, it becomes the carrier’s responsibility to adhere to CALEA. Matrix is an encrypted VoIP/messaging protocol and not a telecommunications provider.
FCC¶
The Liberty Phone has the same mechanical and electrical design as the Librem 5; these tests apply to both.
