OpenPGP Card

Overview

The OpenPGP card is a “smart card” which provides many OpenPGP functions.

The purpose of the card is to store GPG cryptographic keys on it to sign/encrypt emails, textual files, etc. These keys cannot be extracted from the card, meaning that they cannot be stolen.

Installation

  1. Ensure the device if fully powered off.

  2. Remove the rear cover of the device to access the battery compartment.

  3. Remove the existing battery from the compartment.

  4. Insert the OpenPGP card.
    • The location is near the top of the empty battery compartment.

    • Electrical contact pins must face downward toward the device.

    • The orientation of the OpenPGP is etched into the internal frame for reference.

    • Once properly oriented, gently push the OpenPGP into the socket.

  5. Reinsert the battery

  6. Position the cover over the case as before and gently press until it snaps into place.

The Librem Key contains an integrated OpenPGP smart card. Please refer to this documentation for setup and configuration guidance.
