Poor reception
--------------

**Problem**:
Wi-Fi reception on the Librem 13 is weaker than expected:

**Resolution**:

#. **Software**:
   You can install `proprietary drivers <atheros_drivers_>`_ to see if this improves reception.
#. **Router**:
   Try adjusting the Wi-Fi network channels for bandwidth that is less congested.
#. **Router**:
   Consider connecting to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. 5GHz reception is faster but attenuates more easily than 2.4GHz.
#. **Hardware**:
   :ref:`Open the rear cover <l13_disassembly_exterior_rear_cover>` and :ref:`inspect the wifi antenna cables <l13_disassembly_interior_wlan_removal>` for damages.
   Check if the connectors are properly attached to the Wi-Fi card.
   Attempt to re-seat the wifi card.

Options for better Wi-Fi reception:

#. Purchase an external USB Wi-Fi card.
#. Contact the Support department (|email_support|) if you are certain that the Wi-Fi card has malfunctioned or if the cables are damaged.
